Witness

AUTHOR: Lady Raven

DISCLAIMER: All things in the Buffyverse belong to Joss. So there.

RATING/CONTENT: NC-17. Consensual sex [Buffy/Angel] voyeurism (kinda).

SUMMARY: A few days after 'Confessor', Giles makes his own gesture of forgiveness. Sequel to 'Hypocrite' and 'Confessor'.

SPOILERS: Gingerbread, Helpless, 'Hypocrite' by Sare Liz Gordy and 'Confessor' by little ol' me.

AUTHOR'S NOTES: In 'Hypocrite' Buffy says that Giles was there when Willow cast the spell, and the demon isn't ever coming back. To make this consistent with the show, I'm assuming Buffy is talking about Angel's resolve to stay away from her and her ability to give him a happy, because THEY don't know if the loophole still exists or not. Also, there has to be at least a fire exit behind the stacks, so many people come in that way!

Sitting at the library table, Giles looked up and jumped. "Can you please stop doing that?"

Angel looked as apologetic as always. "Sorry."

"You don't need to apologize, Angel, just make some noise," Giles told him, tersely but not unkindly.

Buffy came through the doors saying, "What did you call me for, Giles..." she stopped in her tracks and murmured, "Angel. Wha-what are you doing here?"

Angel looked down at the floor, then at her. "Giles called me."

The Slayer and her vampire lover looked at him, then, with identical expressions. Curiosity, pain and love from the other's presence, and a tightly reined hope.

Giles took his glasses off and polished them. "After the, umm, talking-to Buffy gave me after the experience with the fairytale demon, I started to think. After our talk the other day, Angel, and your generous offer, I did some research. It took me longer than I expected, what with half the library gone, and the fact I'm not very good with that damned machine-"

"You were on the computer? When's the Apocalypse?" Buffy asked.

Giles gave her a tiny smile, before he went on, "I should have checked it before, it was very remiss of me. Also, I suspect, it was also a result of rather selfish motivations. I double-checked Jenny's spell. I think I already knew what I would find." Giles put his glasses back on, looked at Angel-who was so tense he was nearly vibrating-and told him, "There's no loophole in your curse, Angel. You have your soul once and for all. There may be some other kind of spell to take it away, but the curse itself cannot be broken. Not by happiness, or otherwise."

As he had known, Angel immediately looked at Buffy, his expression that of someone who can't believe they have been blessed. Buffy wore a similar expression of disbelieving hope, and as their eyes met, their gaze held an undertone of such passionate yearning, Giles couldn't believe he hadn't seen it before.

"I assume that you will lock up, Buffy?" Buffy nodded dazedly, her eyes locked on Angel's. "Given what you've been through lately, I think you deserve a couple of nights off. I'll 'cover for you' - I believe that's the expression - with Joyce." Gripped by a strange impulse, he added, "I'll leave through the stacks, I've been meaning to check that exit, anyway. I'll say goodnight, then."

"Goodnight, Giles," Buffy and Angel said softly in unison.

Giles checked he had everything, then climbed the stairs to the stacks. He threaded his way through them, but didn't head to the small fire exit. He moved to the one of the few places which gave a good view of the main library floor while being concealed in itself, and made himself comfortable. He knew that some - like Xander - would think that this impulse was to fulfill some twisted sexual frustration.

But it wasn't like that. He just needed to witness the woman, who was for all intents and purposes his daughter, reconcile with the man she would always love. He needed to witness the bonding of two souls that, for all he had tried to deny it, would always resonate in the same rhythm.

He was just in time; a second after he sat down, Buffy asked, "Do you think he's gone?"

Angel just moved a step forward and nodded. A heartbeat passed, and then Buffy and Angel threw themselves into each other's arms, kissing fiercely. Their bodies pressed so close no light peeked between, they sank to the floor.

As Angel lowered Buffy onto her back beneath him, Giles could see Buffy's hands moving over Angel's back, under his coat and blinked. He didn't think that they would here..he'd obviously underestimated the force of their pent-up desires. He'd thought he would see some intense kissing and then they'd adjourn to the mansion.

He wondered if he should leave now, but realized that if he was going to witness the renewal of their relationship, he might as well do a thorough job. And their love was so incandescent, it was impossible to tear himself away.

Angel was barely audible as he moaned, "Buffy..I wanted to go slow, but I can't...I just can't."

Buffy panted, "I don't want slow...I need you too much. I want you now! _Now_!"

Angel growled and buried his face in her neck. Giles sat up a little straighter in alarm, and relaxed when he saw Angel's forehead was still smooth, the ridges still absent. Buffy moaned as Angel nibbled her throat, writhing beneath him as he slowly made his way down her neck. He paused over her pulse, and concentrated for a few seconds, until Buffy screamed her delight as her body stiffened in orgasm.

She wriggled her hips and her skirt traveled up her thighs. Angel pushed it up a little higher and growled again, as he moved a hand between their bodies and started to yank. The tearing of cloth, and the way Buffy arched, told Giles that he'd ripped away her underwear.

Buffy's hands were moving between them, now, and Giles saw the end of Angel's belt flop free, before Buffy wrapped her legs around Angel's thighs, and they moved together sharply. Angel howled, and Buffy screamed in pleasure again. Their bodies slammed together over and over, the force sending them creeping across the floor.

All that could be heard was the gasps and moans of pleasure that escaped between their kisses, and the rasp of their clothing against the floor. After a few minutes, Buffy cradled Angel's head in her hands, and brought his face to her throat. Angel's growl echoed throughout the library as he transformed to game face and struck. Buffy screamed again, obviously coming with him.

They lay still and quiet for a minute. Then Angel slid his hands under Buffy's knees, lifting them to raise her legs. He slid his hands under the small of her back; lifting her just enough for him to bend his knees and slide them under hers. His hands shifted up her back, one at the base of her spine and one halfway up her back, and raised her. Angel ended up kneeling, with Buffy astride his lap, their bodies still joined.

Their foreheads pressed together, they dropped tiny kisses all over each other's faces as they clung to each other in silence. Then Angel kissed her deeply, and reached up to take her left hand in his own. He brought her hand to his lips and kissed her claddaugh ring, with so much love and tenderness that Giles had to blink away tears. Angel looked Buffy in the eyes, and his voice throbbed as he told her, "I love you, Buffy. I'll love you forever."

Buffy smiled at him, and replied, "I love you too, Angel. I always will."

After another long kiss, Angel looked around and said in a wondering tone, "I can't believe I just made love with you on the library floor."

Buffy smiled, and the mischievous expression was very familiar to Giles. "What, you never thought about us making love in the library? I know I did."

"Yeah, but I always thought about us on the table, at least. Maybe in the video room."

"The table? My fantasy always took place upstairs in the stacks. Sometimes, Giles and all the gang would be here at the tables, and I'd watch them through the books as you took me from behind."

Angel raised his eyebrows, and chuckled. Giles blushed.

Buffy grinned, and asked, "You want to try that next?"

Giles' eyes widened in panic, and he started to calculate how long it would take him to reach the exit. He heaved a silent sigh of relief when he heard Angel say, "Let's save that for another time. Why don't we go back to the mansion?" His voice turned seductive as he added, "There's ten bedrooms, and a couple of bathrooms. Wouldn't you like to make love on the couch in front of the fireplace?"

"Uh-huh," Buffy giggled. "Hey, how long do you think it would take us to do it in every room in the mansion?"

Angel kissed her swiftly and thoroughly, and smiled as he replied, "Well, it's Saturday tomorrow, and Giles said he'd cover with Joyce. If you're feeling anything like I am, I'd say we could go through the entire place by Sunday morning."

"I'm willing to give it a shot," Buffy said, kissing him again.

After they surfaced for air, Angel sighed and said, "Buffy, if we want to go back to the mansion, we gotta stand up. I can't carry you through town like this."

Buffy pouted, and slowly moved off Angel's lap and stood, both of them sighing sadly as their bodies parted. Buffy tugged her skirt down as she straightened, her body blocking Giles' view of Angel's lap - much to his relief.

After he buckled his belt, Angel reached out and grabbed the hem of Buffy's skirt, straightening the hem and pulling it down the rest of the way.

His hands lingered on her legs, and Buffy told him, "You don't stop that, we're going to end up in the stacks." Giles didn't need to see her face to know that she was smiling.

Angel laughed softly, and stood. The two kissed again, and walked out of the library, arms around each other.

Giles watched them go, and smiled. He * knew * that they would forget to lock up before they left.
